Starałem się jak mogłem, studiowałem, czytałem mnóstwo książek, i nic. W moim domu książki wylały się z półek, leżą stosami na meblach, na podłodze, tamują przejście. Nie mogę ich oczywiście wszystkich przeczytać, a ciągle moje wilcze oczy pożądają nowych tytułów. Ale, żeby być dokładnym, poczucie własnego ograniczenia nie jest czymś stałym, to tylko od czasu do czasu pojawia się, błyska, świadomość wąskości naszej wyobraźni, jakby kości naszej czaszki były za grube i nie pozwalały umysłowi objąć tego, co jemu powinno być dane. Powinienem wiedzieć wszystko, co dzieje się teraz, równocześnie, w każdym punkcie ziemi, powinienem móc wnikać w umysły moich współczesnych i ludzi o kilka pokoleń później, a także tych, którzy żyli dwa tysiące i osiem tysięcy lat temu.
